Dr Sinziana Radulescu, president of Hemopet

The Hemopet concept was created in the autumn of 2011, in order to push the veterinary medical services to a higher level. Therefore, an important element is introduced: transfusion therapy – raising the standard of veterinary services in Romania.

The blood transfusion is a life-saving intervention as long as the adequate blood product is available.

We are offering a reliable support to every veterinary professional, in the daily practice, before or during a surgery, considering the numerous cases they are confronted with weekly, each of them requiring a different treatment.

Another important aspect that directly affects the survival chances of the patients is the delivery of the blood products. This is why Hemopet has set the goal to register, collect and deliver the appropriate blood product in maximum 24 hours anywhere in the country. The delivery time in Bucharest is no more than 2 hours, giving a major advantage to the safety of the intervention, both for the doctors, as well as for the owners.

Hemopet does not only offer products or services, it is a way of living, a different view upon things – based on innovation and, most of all, safety. The Hemopet team knows that both the patient and the donor need the same level of attention and dedication. This is the reason why our efforts are not limited only to the patients that need blood, but we also maintain our donors health.

We cannot look at our donors as simple patients, but we consider them part of our family. Their help in saving other lives makes them and their owners true heroes. A donor can make a difference between life and death!

This is why our donors receive the best preventive medicine for free – vaccines, deworming, anti-parasitics, blood tests, etc. This way, the owner of the donor pet can be relaxed and enjoy the companionship of a healthy and happy pet.

What does it take to be a donor? We make sure a few important requirements are met and the volunteers who come are registered as donors and come on a regular basis. In order to be able to donate 450 ml of blood, a dog should weigh at least 25 kg, but they must not be overweight. Cats must weigh more than 4 kg and they donate 50 ml of blood. They should be at least 1 year old and maximum 8. An animal cannot give blood if they are currently under treatment, at least two weeks must pass after the treatment is complete, or if they are diagnosed with a chronic disease or heart problems.

For every blood donation, tests are made to ensure the products are safe for transfusion and that the donors can remain in the program. Our rigorous requirements are aligned to the blood banks all over the world, our doctors visiting other facilities to keep up-to-date with the newest blood collection and storage requirements, as well as other best-practice techniques.

We would like to express our gratitude to the team Hemopet and especially to Dr Sinziana Radulescu for sharing their information and experience  and for one more reason

to be proud member of Balkan Veterinary Family.
